DAY
It was
Lancaster bombers dropping red and
green flares
The peeling of bells, the whistle of
tugs on the Thames
It was
Sailors climbing the lamp posts,
Swinging by one arm
Policemen losing their helmets and
shields
It was
Bonfires lit, fireworks fizzing to
get released, Dustbin lids clanging,
Paddling in the fountains of
Trafalgar Square,
Everyone splashing and whizzing
everywhere
It was
How we celebrated Victory in Europe
